Martin City St. Patrick’s Parade 2008 will again be an Irishpalooza.
The south end of Kansas City is again planning a day full of parade-style pageantry, music, food, contests and family fun on Sunday, March 16, 2008.
That’s when the 21st Annual Martin City St. Patrick’s Day Parade will kickoff, celebrating more than two decades as “the best little fun parade in Kansas City”.
For the second straight year, the parade will be a part of a full day of activities in the Martin City downtown district.
The Irishpalooza all starts at 11am with the children’s area, the merchant tents, and the food & beverage tents being immediately open and things kicking up a gear come 11:30am with the pre-parade Prince & Princess Contest.
With fun for the kids remaining a major focus this year, there is also a crafts-making tent, games, miniature golf, clowns, as well as an inflatable slide and moonwalk.
The actual 2-hour parade will commence at 2pm with more than 100 participants, and this is followed by continued festivities until 6pm, including the adult and youth finals competition of Irish Idol Karaoke Style
In keeping with the large and very successful expansion of fun things to do on parade day, Martin City’s theme for 2008 will again be Irishpalooza, meaning an Irish extravaganza! The parade Grand Marshal will be none other than KMBC-TV9’s Larry Moore.
Like last year when more than 20,000 people descended on Martin City, the celebration will host a wide range of entertainment, including musical and performance-related acts, area merchant tents, and pavilions offering an enjoyable array of food and drink.
The Irish Idol Karaoke Style finals promises to be exciting, with the adult winner capturing the $750 Grand Prize and the youth winner earning a significant package of prizes and gift certificates from Martin City merchants.
In the spirit of the related holiday, a portion of the proceeds from the 2008 parade will benefit a valued Martin City neighbor: Ozanam, a residential treatment center for children. Oh, and for some reason or other you are asked to wear green .
