Painting In Progress: Blue Mountains, Green Grass II
As I’m hoping to get motoring on painting again shortly, I thought I’d share an Irish painting in progress with you.
One of the most frequent questions I am asked about painting (as opposed to the Frequently Asked Irish Questions) is about the process. Do I paint from real life, from memory, from my imagination, from drawings, from photographs? And do I sketch out the painting first or dive straight in?
The answer is any of the above, and usually a mixture, though I have no consistent approach.
About a year after painting Kinsale I from a drawing I did on location, I found a photo I had forgotten I also took at the same time. So I never used that photo when doing the painting, but had I remembered it existed it may well have been thrown into the mix.
This is a painting in progess. It’s biggish, being 30″ x 30″, the same size as The Cabin, and similarly painted on its sides.
It’s called Blue Mountains, Green Grass II:
I know it might not look like much, and indeed it may never look like much, but for comparison purposes here’s how the original Blue Mountains, Green Grass looked at the same point of incompletion:
And here’s Blue Mountains, Green Grass completed:
Note that Blue Mountains, Green Grass is SOLD, and just as soon as I finish Blue Mountains, Green Grass II I’ll post here on Irish KC for sale.
