Kansas City columnist lucks out
Speaking of Irish festivals and rain, Hearne Christopher makes an idiotic comment - well actually he makes two - in the Kansas City Star yesterday.
In talking about 2006, Christopher makes a gratuitous reference to the rain that affected, not the 2005 Kansas City Irish festival, and not the 2004 festival, but the 2003 festival - the only time the event was staged at Berkley Park.
That this year will be the third time the festival is held at Crown Center, which regardless of weather has no problems whatsover with parking, receives no emphasis from him.
And then rather than simply saying how great Luka Bloom is, and how great the festival is for booking him, Christopher says they lucked out by landing Bloom, as if he was accidentally booked by people who didn’t know what they were doing.
It wouldn’t have occurred to Christopher to give credit to the festival for successfully going after Luka Bloom this year and for making the Kansas City festival attractive to top Irish performers by the successes of ALL the previous festivals.

Amen! There is nothing Lucky about any of the bookings we do. If there was one “lucky” booking I’ve done in the past 7 years, it would have been Flogging Molly, and only because they went from the pub circut to the international/ festival circut shortly after signing on for Brookside Irish Fest 2002.
