Joanna Newsom and Sal Retta
In a recent conversation with Pitch Weekly Music Editor, Jason Harper, I bemoaned his lack of enthusiasm for the harpist who made everybody’s Best Of list for 2006 with her album Ys, Joanna Newsom.
You may recall we mentioned Newsom before.
Easily deflecting my attempts to get him to reconsider, Jason once again espoused the local talent that is Sal Retta. Comparisons are, of course, odious, but I’m grateful for being introduced to the funky folkie guitar music of Retta.
Meanwhile, with the announcement of a gig in Dublin in April for Joanna Newsom, Nialler has made available the excellent track Cosmia from the aforementioned Ys.
Sal Retta plays The Artisan in Columbia, Missouri on February 9, 2007 at 9pm

I had no idea she was coming to Ireland!
I’m over the moon at that, Ys was extraordinary in my opinion. Not for everyone, I know, but it really affected me. It’s one of the few albums that I can listen to again and again, and still be moved.
