Top Irish Traditional Music Albums of 2006
In The Irish Times Siobhán Long has her top Irish Traditional Music albums of 2006.
Before running through the list Siobhán recaps on the year with honourable mentions for old and new friends. People like Solas who didn’t turn up in Berkley Park in 2003 because the rain did.
And our old friends Téada are placed at number 2 largely for their tune pairings and arrangements. Their album Inné Amárach (”yesterday tomorrow”) was also placed at number 1 in RTÉ Radio 1 Late Session’s Top 20 albums of 2006, and was the only Irish record in MOJO’s top ten albums of 2006, at 7.
I always felt Kansas City never got the best of Téada for a variety of reasons, but maybe they’ll come back again, what with Sligo being so close and all.
Here’s Téada perfoming at the Gradam Ceoil 2006, in Cork, Ireland:
(Oisín Mac Diarmada - fiddle. Paul Finn - button accordion. Damien Stenson - flute. Seán Mc Elwain - guitar. Tristan Rosenstock - bodhrán)
Donal Clancy, last seen in Kansas City playing so well with Cathie Ryan, accompanies Mick McAuley and Winifred Horan on their album Serenade, listed at number 5.
