Are You Aware of the IMCC?
A couple of people have recently asked me if I am aware of the Irish Museum & Cultural Center (IMCC) as they don’t see any mention of it on this site.
Actually only one was a question, but unfortunately the email address supplied is failing, so Mary, if you’re reading, apologies for not getting an individual reply to you and thank you for contacting me.
The other one wasn’t a question because it was an assertion in the form of a complaint, made anonymously on another site, that I appear to be unaware of the IMCC and the events and activities that take place at the center or under its auspices.
And despite the 101 things wrong with IrishKC, nothing gets my defensive hackles up like highly inaccurate complaints. Remember this nonsense?
Apologies then to regular readers who know this to be, em, utter tosh, and to the irregular readers who are familiar with how a scroll bar works, but let me outline how IMCC posts may be accessed. And for the anonymous commenter who is planning on using the IMCC resources to trace their ancestors, I do hope they are more successful at that than they were at tracing IMCC posts on Irish KC.
There are over 30 posts on the Irish Museum & Cultural Center on the site, as it has featured since it first opened its doors at Union Station in 2006. The events that take place there feature regularly on the events calendar, and most of them being particularly noteworthy also get featured on the highlighted events listed in the far sidebar on the home page.
Currently as I write this there are posts (in the center column) about the center called “Update on IMCC Gala” and “Irish Center Session Cancelled for Irish Music Christmas Event“. Older posts are on older pages and also archived in the respective months and in the category “Organizations“.
Categories can be found in the center column - though there are a heck of a lot of them, and temporarily on the home page they are beneath post excerpts, so it’s a long scroll down. I’m hoping to make these easier to find when I can find the time and to also add individual categories for each organization.
In the far column there is the the Main Events highlighted and the March ‘08 event of Cherish the Ladies is the Annual Gala for the IMCC. Also I’ve placed a graphic there to promote the Irish Trad School - which as the graphic states, takes place at the Center.
Once events have taken place the links to them are removed from the two calendars, but their posts are not removed from the archives (by page, month, or category).
There is a search facility also on the site, so for example if you type in there the words Irish Museum Cultural Center, it should show you 33 posts specifically on the IMCC. But you’ll find other references, particularly in relation to the aforementioned Irish Trad School, but also under genealogy and under the Irish language, as well as many other places.
One of the problems with posting as much as I do is it being then difficult to organise how I present it. For some time now I have had plans for a directory of all things Irish in Kansas City and whenever I can put that in place it should be easy to quickly find information on the likes of the IMCC.
Meanwhile it’s after 3 4 in the morning here in Europe and if I don’t fall asleep I’ll be posting shortly about the Trivia competition that the IMCC is running in February of next year. But first I have a ton of emails to catch up on, and I fancy a cup of tea something rotten.
