Top 10 Best Kansas City Blogs
It’s the first of the lists I’m about to start throwing at you this year end.
Pete Dulin of Present Magazine contacted me a while ago and asked me to submit my top 10 KC blogs. As I was already planning such a list it was an easy yes.
I should note that my sidebar blogrolls have long been in need of a major update, and now having noted that I’ll ignore it and go stick the kettle on.
Here are the top 10 KC blogs as I submitted, along with the requested liner notes. To create suspense I’ll list them in reverse order.
10. Erin in the Real World - Personal, creative, general, corn shucking, video funny, dating, drinking, and haikus. Reading it makes you young.
9. There Stands The Glass - The limited life presentation of relatively rare or unsung pieces of music told with a KC slant and always with the fabulous photos of the cover art in close-up with probably a beverage of some description. Bring out the coffee table book.
8. Well Hell Michelle - Finally transitioned from the uniquely excellent porn customer stories to the more general blog with the same quick insights bringing us human quirkiness.
7. Gone Mild - If blogging is a conversation too many political conversations are monologues. Dan however fosters and facilitates real discussions. Intelligent and yes opinionated, but you don’t have to agree.
6. Farmer Bob - Media, culture, art, and zaniness. A view with an edge, a barbed edge. And doodles. Tremendous variety in a unique voice.
5. FileGirl - Funny, personal, family, passionate, parenthood, slutty, religious, sexy, and did I say funny?
4. Tony’s Kansas City - Nobody does what Tony does. News aggregator and commentary sites come and go, but Tony is relentless, digging and stirring in a bizarre and dazzling presentation of the KC news that others either ignore or blandly regurgitate.
3. Hip Suburban White Guy - In 2007 Xavier Onassis upped HSWG into a tour de force of blogging, at a pace and quality that the best bloggers can rarely sustain for more than a year. Ranting, politics, silliness, nostalgia, space travel, and dating.
2. Death’s Door - KC lost Greg Beck this year, a huge loss, but thanks to his friends and family the view from the Spanish announcers table lives on. Masterful.
1. Happy in Bag - concise, thoughtful, probing, beautiful, staccato slices of Kansas City life. And pictures too. Probably perfect.
Honourable mentions go to M-Toast, Nightmare, Swooshed, The D Rules, Heather, Kansas City Post, Spyder, Cara, Faith, 3am who was just pushed out at the last minute, Venus when she was public, Observant Bystander when she was flowing, and Scoot if he’d post more often.
Particularly noted are Sugar Britches and Sassywho who both would have made the list if they were nearer to Kansas City than their respective outposts in Missouri and Kansas.
Just pushed out at the last minute!?!?? I demand a recount!
Anyway, merry holidays and etc. Hope all is well.
At least you got a push, dude.
Kick-ass!
Gee whiz. Thanks.
Funny, just this morning I realized I hadn’t posted anything since Thanksgiving.
Japers, Eolai! You’re the icing on my cake this day.
Thank you… this has been the highlight of my day.
emawkc - the recount is now complete. Results as initially posted stand and you are deemed not to make the list. But I used a process and you were there before the final count. Were I less thorough… And Happy Christmas to you sir!
PlazaJen - Yep, 10 is a very small list, and even compiling a Top 10 list of knitting blogs from the KC area would take a long time. And I must update my blogroll.
Erin - You Americans and your crazy expressions. I’ll assume kick-ass is an exhortation, one of the positive kind, rather than an instruction to commit to unAmerican act.
Happy - You just do what you do. Sorry I placed the Glass below the Bag, and hope I didn’t send some uncharitable folk your way.
Scooter - Ha, though I didn’t mean to pick on you; it’s just that your blog particularly with the walks and pub crawls is quite a unique record of life in these parts. Or those parts I mean since I’m not there.
Sugar - I do hope you’re not using me as an excuse to eat that cake, let alone the practice of draping it in gick If you keep writing it they will come - just make sure to let them see your early stuff too.
Michelle - You already had one of the best niche blogs in the city, and it’s great that you found a way to keep WHM going. So thank you.
Thanks man! Be sure to let us if you plan on coming back for a visit so we can plan a blogger meet-up for you. Hope all is going well on the Emerald Isle.
Thanks for the honorable mention!
Thanks for the shout-out. Hopefully, I can also drum up some support for my new Kansas City-based blog about Dublin.
