Irish Poet Desmond Egan at Rockhurst, Kansas City, MO
Irish poet Desmond Egan is appearing at Rockhurst University’s Mabee Theater on Sunday, March 25, at 2 pm. in an event put together by Rockhurst Professor John Kerrigan, a veteran of the Bloomsday readings.
Yes, the man who invoked Kansas’ most disliked man, the Reverend Fred Phelps, to describe Ireland as “a land of sodomite dandies (though not quite as bad a Sweden, yet)” is coming to Kansas City.
Egan is Artistic Director for the Hopkins Summer School in County Kildare and conducts workshops and readings of his work throughout Europe and the U.S. The recipient of the US National Poetry Award among many others, Egan has been translated into over twenty languages and is reknowned as a reader and teacher.
In 1986 the Irish Literary Supplement described Desmond Egan as “incontestably the most brilliant writer to have given workshops at the Irish Literary Festivals.” But you may remember from here on Irish KC Egan being described as “a fag in denial” - by the charming Phelps.
This FREE event is being sponsored by Bloomsday Books, The Irish Museum and Cultural Center, Rockhurst College and private donors.
