Building Up to Labor Day Weekend
You know the way I’m supposedly moving back to Ireland?
Well, I’m packing.
Why thank you.
And I’m coping with uninformative shipping and trucking companies. Moments ago everything was confirmed to be back on track again - give or take a couple of days. But I’m not sure that anybody knows what the word ‘confirmed’ means.
And I’m trying to work on the computer while the computer is trying not to work on me.
And I’m fixing a puncture. The third flat in as many trips. So I can get food to stop the strange noises coming from my belly. Yes I need a bicycle to buy food.
And I’m applying for jobs in Dublin. Strange behaviour I grant you for somebody who refuses to work.
And I’m behind on emailing everybody, never mind being sociable on the web. I can’t pack and make nice at the same time. And American Hell is languishing as I don’t find the time to scan 200 hundred drawings.
But I sold a painting yesterday. That was a good trick considering I closed my art shop until further notice. The benefits of living in the neighbourhood. Conscientious Objector
And the day before that I finished the day in a sing-song in a hot-tub. With Boulevard Pale Ale and some very nice vodka. It’s far from sing-songs in hot-tubs I was rared. I learned that it’s better to drop your drink and break your fall that to try not to spill your drink and bruise your elbow. And that Pale Ale with warm water is not so nice.
And the night before I was on the winning team for the 2nd week in a row in the trivia contest at The Brick downtown. The turning point in our favour might well have been when we were asked of which country was the national airline called Aer Lingus.
And I’m listening to Eddie Delahunt’s new CD Triúir which I picked up last night while watching Eddie and Gabe and John Morris play at O’Dowd’s on the Plaza. Eddie said he sold a bunch at the Cafe & on Saturday.
Brett Gibson wasn’t there so Davy sat in for him and did a fine job miming the piano accordion whilst looking like Stan Laurel about to cry.
John Morris said his brand new CD It’s About Time will definitely be ready for Friday.
And people are asking me what I am doing for Labor Day Weekend. It’s a holiday; I’ll be doing what I do for most holidays - having some family time. That means phoning Ireland and walking the dog. I always like walking around Kansas City while Kansas City is off work doing whatever its supposed to do on each holiday, usually eating.
And I’m being asked by people for recommendations for Irish entertainment this weekend. And I do have an answer. Which I will get to.
But right now I’m packing. And drinking tea.
Are ya keeping well yourself?
You mean I get to buy a new John Morris cd, a new Eddie cd AND the new Elders DVD?
Man, oh man…is this gonna be a good week or WHAT?!
