Browne’s Irish Street Party in KC, MO
On Saturday June 16, 2007, Browne’s Irish Market & Deli are having their 120th Anniversary Street Fair.
Brownes’ on St Patrick’s Day is such a huge Kansas City institution, that a summer street party is a natural development.
And being scheduled to run from 11am - 11pm is quite a party.
Oldest Irish Business in North America
120 years is certainly an accomplishment that few businesses in the US - never mind Kansas City - can come close to, so Browne’s want to thank their customers by showing you all the things they know you enjoy, like music, vendors, crafts, dancers, and an all-round festival of family-fun.
Entertainment at Browne’s Street Fair (Updated June 16): This is a rough schedule of entertainment at Browne’s
11:00 Dogtree
1:00 Jim “Mr Stinky Feet” Cosgrove
3:00 The Lucky Charms
4:00 Eddie Delahunt
6:30 The Kelihans
8:00 The Elders
The O’Riada Academy of Irish Dancing will also be present. They will be performing throughout the day with various entertainers.
Contests at Browne’s festival
And here is a rough program for contests scheduled for Browne’s Irish party:
2:30pm - Reddest Hair
4:00pm - Best Scones
6:00pm - Best Legs in a Kilt
At 5pm there will be a special presentation.
For Kids at Browne’s

History Tent
Local Irish-American authors Terence O’Malley, Pat ONeill, and Mike O’Laughlin will all be present, as will Walt Bodine and also the Irish Museum.
Podcasts about Browne’s
For more information about the rich history of Browne’s Irish store in Kansas City, check out KC-based national historian Mike O’Loughlin’s podcast where he talks to Kerry Browne. It’s a lovely conversation that illustrates just how entwined in the Irish life of Kansas City Browne’s is.
Mike is planning to do another podcast on the day of the street fair, from Browne’s itself.

Browne’s are also looking for volunteers to help run their June 16 party.

Bloomsday - An Irish Event
June 16 is also Bloomsday of course, and is the thirteenth year that Bloomsday Books, the store named after the day, will be having an Irish party that marks the day 103 years ago in Dublin when James Joyce’s Ulysses takes place. It’s also the first year anybody can remember when Bloomsday falls on a Saturday.
You may have to make a decision between the two events, or if you don’t drink too much you can have a great day shuttling betwen the two events as they compliment each other.
Very excited about your 120th celebration….
What of this trip to Ireland… details please and when are the Elders sched to play..?
Becky,
The Elders‘ official MySpace page lists the lads’ performance at Browne’s Anniversary Party at 6pm.
Similarly The Kelihans on their MySpace page are listed as appearing at 3pm
Eddie Delahunt on his official website doesn’t list a time but states that it will be after his appearance earlier that day at the Bloomsday Celebration in Crestwood where Eddie is scheduled to start at 1pm.
I’d keep watching this space for more info.
Becky and anyone else wondering-
