The Elders in KC’s Pilgrim Chapel
I thought I had mentioned this ages ago, but I don’t see it anywhere.
If you’ve ever looked east from Gillham when you’re at 38th Street you may well have noticed the Pilgrim Chapel and thought it looked nice. It does, but you should see inside.
The former Lutheran Church for the Deaf is one of the more special buildings I have seen in Kansas City. I like the stonework and the deeply inset windows, as well as the woodwork of course, but mostly the feel of the place is irresistible. Roger Coleman runs an impressive place.
The Pilgrim Chapel is a non-denominational chapel that is open to all religious groups and individuals for meditation and celebrations of faith. Some people prefer nature for their meditation and cup of non-denominational tea, and if that’s you then you may be pleased to know that plans to build a garden at the chapel for that purpose are proceeding.
And plans cost money.
Cue The Elders. The boys are playing a benefit for Garden of Silence at 2pm on October 21, 2007. And amazingly they’re playing the gig inside the Pilgrim Chapel itself.
The lads typically have a big sound and a big presence, even in smaller venues like the Record Bar, but I’ve seen them play somebody’s back patio, so I know that Elders fans are getting a unique opportunity to experience Kansas City’s favourite band when they play the Pilgrim Chapel to the limited capacity of just 75 people.
The gig will be an acoustic affair and it will be recorded. And I’m guessing that Ian won’t be running down the aisle to play watered drums by the front door, but to find out you’ll have to go yourself.
Tickets for this very exclusive charity event are $100.00 Call 816.753.6719 for reservations, or you can also email Ben Meade at the address: bmeade[at]KCNET[dot]COM.
I’ve posted this most unusual gig on the KC Irish Events calendar.
