Raglan Road Blog
Ages ago I told you that the new Irish Pub in downtown Kansas City’’s Power & Light district, Raglan Road, was also running a blog.
But because it didn’t appear ready for public consumption I didn’t tell you where it was. Documenting the creation of the pub - an excellent idea - it suffers from far too few entries even if it does declare itself to be only an occasional series.
Anyway, it be HERE.
Hard not to notice from its URL the cheeky borrowing of a rather well known former Irish blog.
However the latest entry from late last month - is the first post with any comments. And how refreshing to see a negative comment allowed up there:
The beer is the best thing on the menu. During a recent visit we were disappointed in every dish we had. The ’shepards pie’ was so salty it was inedible. Would have sent it back but server never came back to check on us. Risotto was way too aldente…shouldn’t be crunchy. Dipping sauce for bread was good but container made it difficult to get to the guiness part at the bottom, mostly got olive oil. Fish & chips in fancy tube - kind of hard to eat, especially if you want to use a fork! I was hoping for traditional Irish bar fare and got fancy renditions of it instead.
Music was good but once it starts, conversation is over. That’s part of the charm I know, but they should ask before they seat you how close do you want to be to the music.Might go back after they work the kinks out or if I am with a large drinking crowd.
To be honest I think Gigi’s comment sounds unfair. For example what is traditional Irish bar fare? I don’t believe any such food exists. Traditionally pubs in Ireland didn’t provide food; they were for drinking.
And although recent pubs with an Irish theme in America and beyond now provide traditional Irish food, it strikes me as a very worthy cause to attempt to render them in improved versions. If you’re going to be a restaurant, why not be the best restaurant you can be?
And in Florida Raglan Road have an already established pedigree of high quality Irish meals.
Raglan Road is located at 170 East 14th Street in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

This is a REAL PLACE.
( Yes… it’s a HOOTERS pretending to be an authentic Irish Pub ).
I’d say more but I find myself speechless and it’s not because
of photograph number three at the site above which, I admit,
might leave some a little short of breath.
Eolaí… you are better with words.
Perhaps you could put this one into it’s proper
cultural and historical context. ROFL.
Factoring in the Tex Mex might be hard but I’m
sure if anyone can connect those dots… you can.
