Matt Hensley quits Flogging Molly
Matt Hensley will no longer be touring with Flogging Molly. As I mentioned in my last post, Flogging Molly do rather a lot of touring, and it seems to have taken its toll on Hensley:
This decision was not easy for me. I have an eight year old son Oliver who is becoming a little man, and the feeling that he needs his old man around is becoming too strong for me to ignore. The older my son gets the harder it is for me to leave him behind to go out on tour. Flogging Molly, as you know, is a hard working band that tours most of the year; I would never try to change that.
Matt Hensley has played the accordion with Flogging Molly for the last ten years, and if you ever thought it wasn’t cool to play an accordion, him being also a professional skateboarder should’ve at least messed with your head. Hensley is one of four Label Legends, which is the Black Label division of veteran skateboard pros who were previously on Black Label’s main roster.
Hensley is also a founder and creator of skateboarding clothes company Innes Clothing which almost went out of business as Hensley toured more and more with Flogging Molly, before regaining control with his brother Chris Hensley last summer.
The split with FM was announced amicably and Hensley says he may appear with Dave King and the boys (and girl) in the future:
I look forward to playing on some songs when the band is in San Diego
