‘Whiskey on a Sunday’ by Flogging Molly
Irish KC told you about the new Flogging Molly DVD/CD over two months ago, but the release date of July 25th is almost upon us, and more details are now available:
Whiskey on a Sunday, the DVD is a 106 minute feature length documentary film (with bonus footage) and the CD is the accompanying soundtrack featuring 10 new Flogging Molly recordings (5 live recordings of fan favorites, 4 acoustic tracks and a brand new studio track!) Shot over two years and in seven countries, Whiskey on a Sunday is an intimate portrait of Flogging Molly that tracks us from our bar-band roots to our current success and includes footage of us in the studio, at home and on tour with one of the tour highlights being our sold-out homecoming performance at The Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.
If you remember their gig at the Brookside Irish Festival a few years back, you may remember that they had a cameraman with them videoing everything. FM had just flown in from gigging in mainland Europe and had every reason to be tired, but instead backstage when the generator went down and everybody else was in a flap, they were all so calm as they waited for it to be fixed.
Worried that the blue-mohawked crowd in Brookside might now be restless, I was asked to ask Dave King to keep the language down but feeling it was a bit late in the day to ask the headline act to behave a certain way I refused, and King & Co behaved like gentlemen (and a lady) anyway, though he did point out their cameraman in front of the mosh pit calling him “a fat bastard, and don’t give me any hassle about saying that word because he is a ‘fat bastard’, and ‘bastard’ is in the dictionary”.
When he came off stage at the end I was manning the green room alone, and before even the other band members finished playing, King asked me where I would recommend in town for a quiet drink, saying he ‘heard Molloy’s was quiet’. As one Dub to another, we chatted as the rest of the band kept playing on stage, and Rico and his boys held the mosh pit in place.
As well as coming out on July 25 you can pre-order Whiskey on a Sunday now and have it delivered to you on July 25.
There is also a combo package you can order that includes the DVD/CD and a numbered, limited edition Whiskey on a Sunday silk-screened poster.
The band have been showing some Whiskey on a Sunday screenings around the country and are planning more in Los Angeles (where it all began, at Molly Malone’s), and in Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Sarasota, Philadelphia, San Diego and Charlottesville, in coming weeks.
Meanwhile the FM official website is currently undergoing a series of renovations which has already incorporated some of the images from the Whiskey on a Sunday DVD/CD booklet.
Flogging Molly are heading off to Europe soon for some festivals, including two huge ones in Britain, the Reading and Leeds Festivals, where FM are performing on the Main Stages. I have a couple of friends going to those gigs - I might ask them for a report.
