Irish KC is a one-man site on Irish news and events in Kansas City and its hinterland, along with Irishness in general and how it relates to Irish-America.

It is authored by an artist from Ireland who has lived in Kansas City.

Other sites: Bicyclistic (personal), American Hell (cartoons)

KC Irish Fest 2009: Reactions & Photos

While “this loser hasn’t lived in KC for a year* and wasn’t even at the Irish Fest”, here’s the words of 50 people who were. (*almost 2 years now)

Because no hashtag was arranged, despite requests, multiple search terms and cross referencing were necessary to find these posts.

These are the words of performers, volunteers, vendors, presenters, broadcasters, but mostly, of ordinary punters.

clmerle Ardal O’Hanlon at #KCIF was feckin’ brilliant

Crazybananas I think Irishfest may just be an excuse for douchey white guys to wear ye olde golf caps and pretend they’re oppressed.

pwilcox Kansas City Irish Fest this weekend!! Will be fun, but sad that ETH isn’t here this year!!

petiteartichoke well. there was no actual Guiness at the Irish Fest… I mean to say, what? What’s this world coming to? Had a small Boulevard stout.

linseylou Wow. Trying to check in at the Hyatt is ridiculous.

proberts4 Some 13 yr old just did a legit moon walk at the kc Irish fest. Wow.

laikaf At KC Irish Fest. After a large Boulevard stout, not as lame as I thought it’d be.

IARSprint Irish Fest in KC this weekend. Not the same as Dublin but best there is in KC. Listening to the Elders.

clmerle Unexpected piper. (and he’s not very good and plays way too long. His reeds need to be replaced) http://twitpic.com/gjaii

augustjohnson Just snuck into irishfest. sweet…

augustjohnson Correction-my stepmom snuck into irish fest and i followed.

designbyjm It looks like a Leprechaun jumped in the #CrownCenter fountains, everything is green.

ETinKC Seems all you need to be irish is to be white. Free Ireland my ass. Your last name is goldberg. #KC Irish Fest

ambienaware KC Irishfest Review: company was top notch, fest itself was out of stout by the time we arrived. Guinness, Bass, and Harp not invited.

Rivenchaos got to meet and talk with Barry Fitzgerald from Ghost Hunters International! He has the best stories!

iatraveler Only bad thing about @KCIrishFest? No Magners- or any other hard cider!

Crazybananas Apparently the Irish enjoy standing in long lines.

bandy Irish Fest KC was a blast last night, even though I spent the entire time as a volunteer beertender

moliver66 Hothouse Flowers non-stop, 2 hr. show at KC Irish Fest yesterday was nothing short of awesome. Go raibh maith agat! And come back soon!

emptythree 52EE5 At the Irish festival here in Kansas city… Yanno I would never say a band was “blowing up” at an Irish festival… #tcot #tlot

emptythree I wouldn’t include org’s that sent money to the IRA at the Irish festival either… Kind of like a Lebonese fest having an al-queada booth.

mrpeeper Hanging out at #kcirishfest . Beer and Irish accents just feel right together.

ambientaware Verdict: KC Irishfest is a lot more KC than Irish

ETinKC Based on the woman here is seems Irelend 3rd biggest export may be silicone. #KC Irish Fest.

jessajones Kansas City Irish Festival. Scotch eggs! Red heads! Beer! Didn’t realize deep-fried Mars bars were Irish…

iatraveler Wore out the girls @KCIrishFest. They were loving David Munnelly Band. Looking forward to lots of fun this weekend!

moreauphone At Kansas City Irish Fest. I wonder if they have bangers and mash…

KCGAC Having a blast down at the Kansas City Irish Fest. Stop by and see our booth!

MarkyMarkKC last night was great at the irish fest, went to a comedy show, comedian was funny

MarkyMarkKC in fact the irish woman that was drunk next to me was even better

ReaLLYiDeal Great afternoon at KC Irish Fest…love all the festival food.

BrieannaS Proud to be Irish at the KC Irish Fest. Erin go braugh!!!

billinkc Herford house has the cheapest Corn dogs ($2). The 5 dollar corn dogs near the state street stage hardly seem worth it

billinkc KCGAC putting on a good demo at KCIF

clmerle Looking at #KCIF schedule: They have a class on hurling on Sun morn after Sat night at an Irish fest. Always a good idea.

Hedda1978 Never too early for Hurling

PRI_Nick Paranormal Research Investigators are rockin out at the Irish Fest!

PRI_Nick paranormal research investigators are grabbing beers for their ghostly friends at the irish festival. That is why we have two beers

engiles I should NOT have to wait 20 min for two PREPAID hotel rooms @ #Hyatt Crown Center. This is goddamn IDIOTIC. WTF #Hyatt?

AmyZen went to Irish Fest at Crown Center. It was kinda fun… I liked the music..

scottjclayton first time. it was pretty cool. the bands were good. love me some folk irish music!

tjstein Enjoying the music at the KC Irish Festival

sarahjclark I’m not Irish but this music makes me want to do the Irish Jig

LindseyBernier listening 2 irish music @ irishfest. don’t think I’m going 2 hear anything similar 2 the dropkick murphys or flogging molly :(

jam3kc At IrishFest… Someone’s been craving funnelcake

DWGuth Beautiful night at the KC Irish Festival. The Elders are playing on one stage, Slide on the other. It is great to be Irish, even for a day.

billinkc Fat guy in a little shirt… They ran out of site host shirts last year. This yr no xl or L come out to Irishfest and make fun of me in a M

FeeleyJ just back from the KC Irish Fest and, once again, The Elders kicked arse. Great encore, ended with a cover of Message in a Bottle. Big crowd

clmerle Just heard from Rolf of Cara. They sold out of all their CDs at #KCIF & only have a handful of DVDs left. Their last set was great.

lybrarian Great Celtic music tonight at the Irish Fest. Gotta love KC music festivals. I want to stalk this band: http://www.slide.ie/

mirobinson46 KC Irish Festival yesterday-best Celtic bands ever! Vishten, Acadiennes from Canada and Slide, from Ireland. Check them out online!

priscillahowe One more evening of the KC Irish Festival. Wonder who the audience will be tonight. Last night I was glad to have my puppets on hand.

bennewelldallas Kansas City Irish fest is awesome. Just saw the high school dance team.

andrewburden Got the very last shirt w/ this sweet design. Night photo outside @kcirishfest. http://twitpic.com/gsp3j

aeikenberry Had a heck of a good time @KCIrishFest.

arnphawk i bet i had the most Irish name at the Irish Fest in Kansas City

ecptile3 a couple just left my booth. His T-shirt said “take your top off” hers said “eat me”… I wonder if they dress together or an ongoing fight.

HappyInBag I was disappointed with the KC Irish Fest lineup, @eolai. Slide and David Munnelly, along with Eddie Delahunt, were my favorites.

Caramusic Can’t say how much we loved Kansas City Irish Fest! Brilliant event, thanks to all who are involved! #KCI http://twitpic.com/gtnmi

politichater KC Irish fest was awesome but our elite hotel (Weston) left a lot to be desired. Now it is time to plan our Oct Dublin Ireland visit

LGabrielse The Irish Fest had good music, but was lame otherwise. It never gets bigger or better. It was like an outdoor Walmart

petiteartichoke On the whole, I’d agree with most of the tweets on that page. The festival was fun, but alot more KC than Irish. And we want real Guinness!

Blogs
Thirteenthstep’s Blog the festival was fun even if it wasn’t very enlightening. We sat in on a lecture about the Irish language, which turned out to be more like a guy from Dublin talking for an hour and giving us a few Irish words (still no idea how their spelled. different lecture, I guess). But he was funny, and the hour was entertaining so that is all that really matters.

Food n Things It’s not my purpose to piss anyone off this soon after posting. But I may have no choice when I post about the much revered KC Irish Fest. First of all, I will be there. I love the Irish Fest. Always have. Always will.

BUT… When will the mighty grip of the event’s beer distributors be lifted for the sake of the visitors. More specifically, will the Irish Fest have any Irish Beer

The Rosemary Tree We spent the Labor Day weekend in Kansas City camped out at the Hyatt with about 80,000 of our best friends. If you haven’t ever been to a KC Irish Fest, next year please walk, bike, drive, fly - do whatever it takes to get there.

Cancer Girl There was lots of music, good food, and kids’ activities. Apparently, the Irish are big believers in bouncy castles and inflatable slides, because they were all over the festival.

Group Home Life Jena and I attended last night with a few friends. We had an amazing time enjoying the live Irish bands, food and festive atmosphere. Good times.

TrueShare Blog if we persuaded one person to go paperless, it will have been more than worth it.” Overall it was a great weekend of music, dancing, meat pies, and recycling.

Zandra’ Blog while I feel like I am still a novice lace knitter, one of the judges at KC Irish Fest told me I should not call myself a novice lace knitter, because I would be setting the bar too high.

Walking On Sunshine several men were rockin’ the kilts today. However, it apparently brought out flowers in the hair and overalls! Not to mention this lady (and several others) with fairy wings, and this tiny tot dressed as a pirate!

The Adventures of Kris und Sara Kris and I after a fun day at the Kansas City Irish Fest. We started the day volunteering and stayed around for some entertainment. Kris got to show off his utilikilt!

l e k sketchbook Another beautiful, sunny weekend in KC so we hit the Irish Festival. Music, beer, State Street sponsor tent…what more could you ask for??…besides a balloon for the boy and fish-n-chips for mom and dad!

Tales of Homeschool We didn’t visit the Irish Fest this year even though the weather was absolutely perfect for it. There were performers inside the Crown Center, though. Have they done this before? I can’t remember. But that was enough for us.
