Video: Mason Brown Performs The White Cockade
Here’s a great video just posted a few days ago, of Mason Brown performing Jed Marum’s The White Cockade with Brian Fleming of Ireland’s De Jimbe on the bodhrán.
Mason, a member of Kansas City’s trad band Kelly, is an almost regular Saturday afternoon solo performer at O’Malley’s Irish pub in Weston.
Jed Marum is a frequent visitor to the Kansas City area and performer at O’Malley’s.
Like Different Drums of Ireland, and the Afro-Celt Sound System, De Jimbe mix Irish and African traditional music, particularly percussion. You can read an interview with Brian Fleming where he talks about De Jimbe here.
The White Cockade is based on an Irish Jacobite poem. You can see a video of Jed performing his own song, or his hands anyway, HERE
The video was taken by Jason Herrera of Kentucky’s Irish traditional band, Four Leaf Peat
