Different Drums of Ireland in Missouri
On Sunday September 2, 2007 Different Drums of Ireland are playing in Columbia, Missouri.
The performance is at 7pm at the Unity Center of Columbia at 1600 W. Broadway, Columbia MO 65203.
Different Drums of Ireland are presnted by the Central Missouri Celtic Arts Association (CMCAA).
Primarily a joint celebration of the Bodhrán and the Lambeg, drums seen as representative of the Nationalist and Unionist cultures respectively in Ireland, Different Drums of Ireland play a unique form of Irish music which also borrows from other cultures.
Influenced by the Kodo drummers from Japan Different Drums of Ireland explore a wide variety of percussive sounds as the employ the African Djembe drum for the rhythmic engine of the band and you’ll also hear the High tension snare and various other percussion from around the world.
Mix all that in with uilleann pipes, whistle, guitar and singing, and you have whatever Different Drums of Ireland are.
But the band do a much better job of explaining what they’re about:
The Central Missouri Celtic Arts Association lists other resources for more information on Different Drums on their CMCAA page including an almost half-hour TV programme on the Different Drums cross-community community relations drum-making workshop for kids.
Admission:
