New Irish Festival for Kansas City Area
On Saturday May 17, 2008 there is a new Irish Festival serving the Kansas City area.
The new amphitheater in Jesse James Park in Kearney has “enough open grass space to seat about 4,500″ according to Ryan Marcotte, community recreation coordinator for Kearney, Missouri.
Featuring acts all local to the Kansas City area the Irish festival runs from 11:30am until 9:30pm with live Irish music running from 1:15pm to 7:30pm
Following the demise of the Westport Irish Festival and the Brookside Irish Festival, there has been space in the Kansas City area for neighborhood Irish festivals with local Irish music. The Celtic Block Party at Governor Stumpy’s on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend (May 25, 2008) serves South Kansas City well and now the Northland has its own festival in the Kearney Irish festival, an outdoor venue just 25 minutes from downtown Kansas City.
Irish Music Schedule
1:30 - 3:15pm The Lucky Charms
3:30 - 4:40pm Tullamore
5:00 - 6:10pm Bob Reeder
6:30 - 7:30pm Connie Dover with Mason Brown & Doug Goodhart
Admission to the festival in the the 134-acre park is basically $7.50 each (minimum charge per motor vehicle of $30 for 4 people).
And because I read around I can tell you that soon there will be the planting of 60 trees at the Amphitheater and Jesse James Park 30 hackberry trees and 30 seedless cottonwood trees. And who doesn’t like trees? You can read more stuff relevant to the operation of the amphitheater when you read the minutes of the March 18 meeting (PDF) of The Park and Tree Board, City of Kearney, Missouri.
This event has been posted on the KC Irish Events calendar. Depending on when you read this it may be under events listed for May 17 or under “Future Highlights”. Or if it’s after the event, it will have been deleted.
