Flogging Molly at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, Bonner Springs, KS
Flogging Molly play the Verizon thing over there on the Kansas side on Wednesday, August 15, 2007.
UPDATE: Report from Warped Tour
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. What a lovely name for a venue. A natural amphitheatre of course. Honest. No strings attached. Or Wires.
It’s the Warped Tour. And their website is the place you are supposed to be able to get tickets - though it’s been giving me gip. Gip is not a good thing to be given.
But before that all kicks off for them, Flogging Molly are doing a few music festivals in Europe through June.
I believe Patrick Smith is now handling the accordion role that Matt Hensley has filled since the beginning of FM up until earlier this year.
If you don’t know Flogging Molly’s music, it’s probably best described as folked up - or down - punk music. With Mandolin, Accordion and Fiddle more prevalent than say the punk of the Dropkick Murphys, lead singer and songwriter Dave King reckons that they are both punk and traditional.
Whatever they are, expect a lot of energy from a very hard working band, come Bonner Springs in August. That means a mosh pit for starters. Become friends with Rico, but just be careful to stand back when he and FM’s Dave King start showing each other their tattoos as if they were scars in Jaws.
I’ll confess to having a soft spot for them. Anybody that can write a ballad that proclaims It’s Been the Worst Day Since Yesterday gets a vote from me.
Flogging Molly play the Verizon place over in St Louis on the previous night, Tuesday, August 14, 2007. We’re writen a fair bit about them before on Irish KC, including of times when I spoke with Dave King:
• Flogging Molly’s Drunken English (not Irish) Influence
• ‘Whiskey on a Sunday’ by Flogging Molly
• Flogging Molly in Missouri: A Report
• Photos of Flogging Molly
• Flogging Molly in Missouri, September 2006
I’ll be floggin my doggie that day
