I Read The News Today, Oh Boy
It’s Sunday, and it’s sunny, so naturally I am indoors reading the papers.
Reading the papers of course involves no actual paper anymore, which is a shame for it deprives you of the pleasure of leaving the next person with an array of broadsheets of paper annoying close to alignment yet not, and of resequencing the numbering as well as misplacing the supplements.
-I never saw it dear, honest. Maybe they didn’t print one this weekend
Being parochial, I am, you will gather, referring to the news from home, and as ever the news from Ireland is startling. As I read with eyes opening wider, these are the Irish headlines that greeted me:
• Paisley & McGuinness in Joint Call for Hain to Vacate Stormont
• FG Ard-Fheis: Contract for a Better Ireland
• Arrested Garda Superintendent Applies to Retire
• Dolly Parton Concert Cancelled
• British Army Withdraw from Crossmaglen
• Setanta Scores €650m Soccer Deal
• Bertie U-Turn Wrong-Foots his Ministers
• Lowry Reveals Turmoil and Family Agony
And then I realised the date and knew it was all nonsense.
