Great Cork Storytellers of our Time
I liked this little aside in an article by Tom English in the Scotsman over the weekend.
It concerns the Irish caddie making his debut in the US Open, James McCarthy - described as a Cork-born Alaskan fisherman.
McCarthy was carring the bag for Michael Berg, who you may remember came through qualifying in Kansas.
This sounded like a great little story for the Irish journalists:
What a lovely yarn, what promise lay within. Tell us about it, James, they asked when they tracked him down on Wednesday. “Ah, I’m tired,” said the Corkman. “I need to have a drink. See you, lads.”
