Good Friday Drinking in Ireland
It’s Good Friday, an unofficial holiday in Ireland. This year some pubs are opening in defiance of the law. I don’t think too many people will be surprised if most are open next year.
Other people are buying train tickets so they can drink in pubs at railway stations.
It wasn’t alway so. The 1st time I didn’t fast on a Good Friday
I’m tempted to say that it really isn’t that important, especially when so few people (relatively) go to the pub these days anyway - but symbolism is always a powerful force.
