Festival Times in Kansas City
Went out to O’Dowd’s Irish pub on the Plaza last night for some Irish music. Eddie Delahunt, Gabriel Reyes (bodhran), and Brett Gibson (accordion) had Leo Eilts (of Spontaneous Combustion) playing the bass with them for the night.
And if you were there you will have heard Irish singer Máirtín de Cógáin of The Fuchsia Band sing three Irish songs acapella. The Ould Triangle (with an introduction from the Seanchai lasting twice as long as the song), The Pool Song (think Irish pubs, not swimming), and a genteel version of Paddy Works on the Railway.
While listening to Máirtín, I was chatting with Irish man Brian Garvan (from the original Irish Dance Show Ragús The Show), who is playing with Gráda on this tour of Missouri which includes St Louis as well as the Festival in Kansas City.
It’s that kind of week. Irish things are going on before the Irish Festival this Labor Day Weekend, so you may want to go to see Seamus Kennedy at The Gaf TONIGHT (On Wornall, yards south of Gregory Boulevard).
I see the Irish Fest Blog has borrowed a photo I took of The Gaf to promote toight’s event. Here’s another photo I took.
Seamus Kennedy, Eddie Delahunt & Friends, Gráda, and The Fuchsia Band are among the entertainment at the Irish festival in Crown Center this Labor Day Weekend
