Cherish the Ladies at 2008 Irish Center Gala
Cherish the Ladies are not including Kansas City on their Celtic Christmas tour this year, Minnesota being their only excursion into the Midwest, but KC fans of the ladies need not wait too long before seeing this highly talented ensemble in town.
On March 8, 2008 Cherish the Ladies are playing at the Intercontinental on the Plaza for the Irish Museum and Cultural Center Gala, according to the currently scheduled tour dates on their site.
Cherish The Ladies are of course no strangers to Kansas City and especially its Irish festivals but its especially nice to have a chance to see them at an indoor arena. Together for 20 years or so, they have too many accolades for me to list.
Like most groups together that long, they haven’t always the same people, but the quality has always been maintained and I have a soft spot for the Grammy Award-winning leader of the girls, Joannie Madden who is one of the nicest people in the traditional Irish music scene that I’ve had dealings with.
The list of former members is a bit of a who’s who of great female Irish trad performers and includes Eileen Ivers, Cathie Ryan, Winifred Horan, and Liz Knowles.
The cocktail hour starts at 6:00pm with the big dinner of the evening at 7:15pm. Music during the cocktail hour will be provided by the Irish group Trinity. After cocktail hour and before dinner you also get treated to The O’Riada Academy of Irish Dancing.
Corporate tables are $2,500 with individual tickets going for $150. Table hosts can buy an entire table for 10 for $1,500
March 8, 2008 is a Saturday.
