Blowing in the Wind
Last week I was talking to an uncle of mine over in England. He plays the bagpipes but spares people by bringing his electronic chanter around with him and plays it to himself wearing earphones.
I told him about Charlie the bus driver in Kansas City and how a highlight of living in Waldo would be hearing Charlie very late at night walking around playing the pipes by the terminus near 75th Street, before it was time for the bus to leave.
My uncle told me of one time when he was driving on the M25 and stopped by the police. The policeman asked him if he’d been drinking and my uncle confessed that yeah, he’d had a pint - meaning more than a single pint.
The policeman told him that he had two choices so - you can blow into this, he said offering him a breathalyser, or you can blow into those, he said gesturing at the pipes in the back seat.
