What Makes Your Paintings Irish?
Somebody at a festival once asked me what makes my paintings Irish. It’s not an infrequent question.
-I do, is my frequent answer.
Of course this is a problematic approach since if a person from Ireland paints an American scene, while they are in America (or not, for that matter), is it an Irish painting?
Paintings of Irish scenes, landscapes and seascapes, city and townscapes, are usually all I label as “Irish” though there’s no reason why the abstract paintings can’t be considered “Irish” also.
For good measure much of the paint used was purchased in Ireland, because I buy it in half-litre (16.9 US Fluid Oz) tubs mostly, though increasingly I have been replacing stock with American pint tubs.
And most of the brushes were also bought in Ireland, indeed some of them were actually made in Ireland - like my Richard Oliver brushes, but I’ve been fairly agressive in how I paint these last three years or so and that has necessitated replacements.
Anyway, judge for yourself: Irish Paintings by me
And here’s the Paintings of Ireland I’m currently working on every day. Honest.
Currently I’m looking into having a sale of my paintings, a physical real world sale in an actual place that is as opposed to this online space. It would include some small stuff never offerred on Irish KC, and some paintings I wouldn’t dare to classify as “Irish”. I’ll let you know.
Eolai, I just bought your “Purple Girl” painting because it’s just lovely and was a real bargain at the sale price. Can’t wait!
Thanks very much Medbh!
