Tullamore in The Kingdom
Wondering how Kansas City’s Tullamore are doing on their tour of Ireland?
Well they have their name in the paper, specifically The Kingdom - and that can only mean they’re doing well in Kerry.
They played Listowel last night, and Joe Murphy, director of St John’s Centre in Listowel, is seen as the architect of the tour with Tullamore crediting Murphy and fellow Listowel man Damian Stack for helping to make this Irish tour a reality.
Stack met Tullamore at a performance in Shawnee some years back, and Shawnee, as the Irish community in Kansas (and Missouri) knows, is a sister-city to Listowel.
Regarded as doing for Scottish and Irish traditional songs what the movie the Commitments achieved for soul covers, Tullamore will go from Listowel to venues across Ireland.
That Commitments reference comes from the Pitch, by the way.
