Tullamore in Cavan
Actually I could have said Tullamore in Meath. Or Tullamore in Virginia.
Why? Because Kansas City’s trad band Tullamore are still on their tour of Ireland, and today in the Meath Chronicle is notice of Tullamore’s gig on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Ramor Theatre in Virginia in nearby County Cavan.
That’s nearby County Meath, not KC.
And if you’re neaby Virginia, you can make a booking at the Theatre by calling (049) 8547074.
The Cavan gig is the last of Tullamore’s tour and before then they play Roscommon and Enniskillen as they near the end of a very impressive tour indeed.
I can’t help it, I find headings putting Tullamore in different counties funny. Because Tullamore is a placename. Tullamore is an Anglicization of the Gaelic for ‘Big Hill’ - Tulach being ‘hill’, and Mór being ‘big’. It gives its name to a town in Offaly in the midlands of Ireland, and another small one in Kerry. The Whiskey Tullamore Dew, is named after the Offaly town.
