Tullamore Dew
Just heard from my parents that they went to Tullamore in Offaly for dinner last weekend. Because you’re an avid Irish KC reader, you’ll remember what “Tullamore” means.
While there the Da, An t-Eolaí, picked up a leaflet regarding the whiskey, Tullamore Dew. Its foundation can be traced to 1827 when the distillery was started by a Michael Molloy, an Irish name not unfamiliar to Kansas City. Remember? (Dead now)
In 1887 it passed into the hands of the Daly family, another Irish name not unfamiliar to Kansas City, who left the daily running of the business to Daniel E. Williams. He eventually became the General Manager and his family became joint-shareholders. His initials D E W gave the mame to the whiskey and with it the slogan “give every man his Dew”. So there.
