Top Trad Band from Ireland in Overland Park, KS
In what could well be the top traditional Irish music gig of the year in the Kansas City metro area, The Brock McGuire Band play at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas on Thursday, February 21, 2008.
And it’s FREE.
Accordion, Fiddle, Banjo, Piano - you’re getting great virtuosity on each instrument.
Coming over from East Clare, Paul Brock and Manus McGuire have resumes in Irish music that are way too long and impressive for me to go into here, but they stretch from the 1970s up to the present day and include the Tribute to Joe Cooley with Frankie Gavin, along with a catalogue of awards.
Together with Enda Scahill and Denis Carey, the four men are held in the highest esteem by some of Ireland’s most famous musicians such as Martin Hayes and Paddy Moloney.
Humdinger by Brock and Scahill, playing the melodeon and tenor banjo, won the Irish Times Album of the Year and the Instrumental Album of the Year in Irish American News.
Anyway, I’ve said I wouldn’t go on so but you might be interested to know that Bill Margeson calls the Brock McGuire Band “The best instrumental group in the business”.
At 7pm on Thursday 21, 2008 at the Regnier Hall auditorium at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park, KS, in a concert presented by the Lied Center of Kansas, the Brock McGuire Band play free to the public.
The KU Edwards Campus is located at 12600 Quivira Road in OP.
