Top 100 #1 Albums in UK Charts
As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the UK charts (which are the main music charts Irish people listen/are subjected to), the UK Chart Company has compiled a list of the great British public’s favourite #1 albums of all time from those charts.
Over 220,000 votes were cast producing a list with only one Irish act - Joe Dolan. Okay it’s not, it’s U2 again with six albums in there - the highest being The Joshua Tree at #3.
In fairness the reason The Sultans of Ping FC don’t make it with Casual Sex in the Cineplex, is because they never got to number 1 in the UK album charts. As didn’t Achtung Baby by those U2 boys, Nevermind by Nirvana, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, London Calling by the Clash, Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys, and The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses.
So what does it all mean? Nothing really. I’d like to see a list of everyone’s favourite album that reached number 17 in the Irish charts. Of all time. Now that would mean something.
