Irish Music Event at Bloomsday Books
One of the founders of the Brookside Irish Festival, the event which together with the Westport Irish Fest grew into the Labor Day Weekend Kansas City Irish Festival, is Tom Shawver of Bloomsday Books. Tom continues to champion Irish music, hosting Eddie Delahunt, The Kelihans, the O Riada Academy of Irish Dancing and other Irish acts both local and from out of town, at special events at his bookstore.
On Saturday, Sept. 9 at 4 pm there is a special Irish music event at Bloomsday Books when duo Beverly Buchanan and Dan Cummins, known as Liam’s Fancy will be performing with Turlach Boylan.
Beverly is one of the leading accordion players in the Midwest and specializes in traditional tunes from the west of Ireland. Dan is a classic Irish pub singer who sings in the old style. Turlach Boylan, like Dan, is a native of Ireland. He plays tin whistle, flute, banjo and mandolin—rarely all at once.
Bloomsday is very thrilled to host these Irish musicians for their brief stay in Kansas City. Turlach, as you probably know, now lives in Overland Park and will be teaching classes in the tin whistle at the new Irish Museum and Cultural Center in Union Station.
It’s FREE, but please be prepared to drop a few dollars in the hat for them. And if you fancy a drink, please bring your own liquid refreshments.
Bloomsday Books is located at 313 E. 55th St., near the intersection of 55th and Brookside Boulevard in the historic Crestwood Shops.
