The US is Very Irish
How Irish the US really is, together with how Americans celebrate that Irishness - from today’s Suburban Chicago News compiled by John MacIntyre:
48: Number of states in which the Irish rank in the top five ancestry groups (the exceptions being Hawaii and New Mexico).
84.5 million: Number of Americans who say they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
1: Rank of going to a bar or restaurant as the most popular way Americans will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
I celebrate St Patrick’s Day by putting a grey Mohair jacket on my Jack Russell Terrier and dressing it up so it looks like an Irish Wolfhound. But then I’m not American.
