The Kissers in St. Louis
The Kissers are playing at The Dubliner in St. Louis on Tuesday, November 21, at 9pm or thereabouts.
The Kissers bill themselves as a fomer Pogues cover band - which you probably suspected from their name.
They come from Madison, Wisconsin, and as well as the usual hat-tips to Irish music and American Roots, it’s good to see British Punk also being given some credit.
Usually with bands that have a history of covering Pogues songs, words like ‘frenzied’ and ‘energetic’ get bandied about, but listening to The Kissers on MySpace, there’s a more measured plodding sound, with the Americana coming through strongest to these ears.
They have opened up for acts like Shane MacGowan and the Popes, and for Gaelic Storm, and and certainly strike some of the best poses seen in the genre.
Tickets: $12.00 at the door and available from Ticketmaster
Location: 1025 Washington Avenue, St Louis, MO
Phone: (314) 421-4300
The Kissers will also be at the Ballydoyle Irish Pub in Downers Grove, IL on Saturday December 23. This is a venue known well to Elders fans in the area.
