Téada: Irish Christmas in America
Téada, tenor Michael Londra, harpist Grainne Hambly and uilleann piper Tommy Martin - all names in the Irish traditional music field known to Missouri and Kansas - are reprising the Irish Christmas in America tour this December that was a big success last year.
Now I don’t want you KC folk goin’ getting all excited, and let me tell you why.
I know what you’re like; there was such a queue of people trying to get in to O’Dowd’s Irish Pub to listen to the music on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and the recent Wednesday of the ice storm that there was no room even for the accordion player.
Well, it’s important to say that I’m telling you about this Irish Christmas show because I’ve read in a couple of places (like HERE) that the last night is in Kansas City, BUT not according to the official website or to Téada’s website.
According to those official sources the tour is scheduled for the northeast primarily, and then a last night in Dallas. So Kansas City would appear to be in the Flyover Zone.
A pity though because Téada have always gone down great in Missouri even if they’ve sometimes played to smaller crowds than they’ve deserved. But with narrative from folklorist and author Joe McGowan, and a slide show, together with the serious musical talent on stage, oh and dancing of course, well the whole thing sounds like it might be fun.
And who doesn’t like to have fun?
