Star Reminder of Irish Book Party
John Mark Eberhart in the Kansas City Star gives a plug to the Bloomsday Celebration on Saturday June 16, 2007.
Live Irish music from Eddie Delahunt and from The Lucky Charms, Stout from a keg, the play fro Sylvia Stoner’s Brookside Plaers, readings from the book itself, and all of it FREE.
Actually we’ll talk a lot more through the week about probably my favourite Irish event of the year, but for now bear in mind that the store still needs some readers - call Tom Shawver at Bloomsday Books 816-523-6712 and ask for an available 30 minute slot; I already have mine.

What selection are you reading, Eolai? I thought about doing just a small reading but haven’t decided on the passage yet.
It’s not a specific selection of text Medbh; it’s a selection of time.
It used to be that the whole book was read through in a 24 hour period, stopping only for the play of Night-town, but in the last couple of years the event is down to the 16 waking hours or so in the day.
This year the first reader starts reading from the beginning of the book at 9am, later than previous years, and every half hour a new reader takes over. At the end of the night there is then a jump to ensure that the reading is finished with Molly’s soliliquy.
I guess your selection may well depend on your crowd. I always enjoy reading any dialogue, but I struggled one year when I got the Yo, Nes sequence.
I would want to know ahead of time what I would be reading so I could practice it. There’s a big event planned here in Toronto that looks like fun. I may spare the dinner guests a reading.
