Seamus Heaney wins ‘T.S. Elliot Prize for Poetry’
Those of you who remember the great review the Wichita Eagle gave Seamus Heaney’s District and Circle a couple of months ago, might be particularly interested in hearing that Nobel Laureate Heaney has just won the T.S. Elliot Prize for Poetry for that collection of poems.
I’m not sure how he’s managed to get to now without winning it, but I’m sure the ten thousand pounds (sterling - close to $20,000 I imagine) will come in very useful for plenty of one-day travelcards on the London Underground’s District and Circle lines.
Now Brother The Younger reckons you will find it interesting, because as he reminded me yesterday, Seamus Heaney is a very interesting man and Brother The Younger collided into him on the streets of Dublin last year.
Of course that pedestrian piece of carelessness doesn’t really make Heaney so much interesting as it does enter Brother The Younger into our family game of Famous People Who Have Had A Physical Impact On Me, for which I think Sister The Elder is still winning with Muhammad Ali running over her toe, despite my gallant effort at having Shane MacGowan fall into me in the queue for Bad Bobs. Yes, back when Bobs was Bad.
