Ryder Cup Irish Show
Speaking of Riverdance, it appears to be the inspiration for a change to the Ryder Cup which is being hosted by Ireland for the first time this year, in September.
At the official launch of the Ryder Cup programme today, the Sports Minister of Ireland said he hoped the newly introduced opening ceremony that will be a pageant of music and dance would set the standard for future Ryder Cups.
This year, as well as the usual speeches, spectators will get a specially commissioned Ryder Cup anthem, a flag-raising ceremony and the pageant
Following the funeral of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey recently on Irish television - RTE1 - streamed live, I had the opportunity to see the enormous hype this Irish Ryder Cup is receiving already. It’s hard not to think with the amount of money being spent on the promotion of the event that the ordinary punter will end up paying for it when he attends the event at the K Club. Then again, what ordinary punter goes to the K Club?
Normally the event begins with a low-key official ceremony focused on the players, who are formally attired, but alas it seems now we are destined for Irish music with bondage, and Celtic underpants again.
