Lord of the Dance Insults Eileen Ivers
We mentioned the Riverdance tour a while back so it seems only fair to see where in the world Michael Flatley’s rival and modestly-named production, Lord of the Dance, is at the moment.
Massachussetts. Recently reviewed in the Lowell Sun, it was described as more Vegas than your friendly neighborhood ceili - which is funny, as the show actually has a Vegas troupe. Perhaps that one is even more Vegas.
Looking at the schedule, and a map of North America, it appears that the closest that any of the current active troupes come to Kansas City is either Portsmouth Ohio, or San Juan in Mexico.
Personally I don’t understand why nobody states the obvious of Lord of the Rings Dance being Irish dancing with bondage - which is not as good as it sounds.
Though it would have been if it had been applied to Flatley’s arms back when he used to dance in it himself. Up to then Irish arms knew their place, and showing off meant,
-Look Ma! No hands!
Writing in the Lowell Sun, Nancy Tuttle, while enjoying the show, seemed to prefer memories of favourite adopted Irish daughter of Kansas City, Eileen Ivers:
The spirited dance numbers were excellent, but the dueling violins are deceptive. This show has recorded music, so this fake, string-synch is an insult to Eileen Ivers, Riverdance’s original fiddling queen
Don’t know about you, but it makes me want to fight for Eileen’s honour. Or dance. Now where did I put my Irish dancing gimp costume?
