News From Ireland: Crystal Swing
Just to let you know that sweeping the Irish nation this last week has been a band out of Cork and specifically their version of “He Drinks Tequila”.
Crystal Swing Updates
1. The video by the East Cork family has gone global, having been tweeted to over 4 million people by Ellen DeGeneres
2. Credit where it’s due, it was the gays in Ireland that set this crystal swinging snowball rolling back on Feb 19. The name is PantiBliss.
3. Within days of national fame they had their first live appearance in Dublin’s Pantibar. Sort of. Cryshtal Shwing.
4. Ireland’s Late Late Show presenter has said he’s not teasing but that Crystal Swing will make an appearance on the LLS - but next week as tonight the Late Late is taken over by Ireland choosing its Eurovision entry.
The mother, daughter, and son, trio, since attracting the attention of the good and the bad on twitter, have amassed over 16,000 (UPDATE now 540,000) views for this video in just a few days, and have attracted the nation’s airwaves culminating in a possible appearance on RTE’s flagship TV programme (and world’s longest running chat show) tonight, The Late Late Show. (UPDATE The Late Late Show people may been just teasing us, but Crystal Swing are in today’s Irish Times)
I present it to you now to emphasise what music in Ireland is. Quite varied. It’s why Daniel O’Donnell can play a million gigs in Branson, why Garth Brooks wrote (well, co-wrote) a song called Ireland, and why trad may not be what you hear in the pub when you come visiting Ireland. Country ‘n’ Irish also points to an Irish rural urban divide which often gets ignored.
But anyway, let’s Crystal Swing. All together now, He drinks tequila, she talks dirty in Spanish…

Dreck. Absolure dreck.
I’ve seen better karaoke shows in Raytown. And hotter Moms.
Anyone who doesn’t enjoy this is lacking in something. A real dose of energy, morning, noon or night. Sock it to ‘em, Crystals! Éamonn, Dublin (Yes, a Jack!!)
It’s gotta be a joke
