Lisa Hannigan in Missouri
Ireland’s Lisa Hannigan is touring America this October and November.
She’s her own woman of course, but while we’re waiting for this album to come out the chances are that you know her as the female voice on Damien Rice’s albums and concerts.
On Sunday 23 November 2008 at 8pm Lisa Hannigan plays the Fox Theatre in St Louis, Missouri. At the time of writing there are no dates scheduled for Kansas City but the 24th of November doesn’t have a concert lined up so if anybody fancies trying to persuade her to the other side of Missouri, that looks like your only chance.
I’m guessing if you found yourself being a fan of the Swell Season, that Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova collaboration from the Irish musical film Once, that you’ll be a fan of Hannigan’s solo stuff.
Lisa also collaborated with Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol in the Cake Sale project:
And while we’re on the subject, do you know who wrote Some Surprise? Paul Noonan. Who? The frontman of Bell X1. Of who? Oh keep up - remember, Bell X1 are playing in Kansas City, and they’re the band that Mr Damien Rice used to be with when they were all called Juniper. I’ve heard Lisa sing with Paul himself live in the studio of a couple of Irish radio stations.
Lisa also did backing vocals on the album, sadly posthumous, that featured the track in this advert - Skylarkin by the late and great Mic Christopher, a very close friend of Glen Hansard’s as it happens.
Have a listen to Lisa Hannigan on MySpace, and there are a few MP3s of her on the Damien Rice fansite Eskimo Friends.
