Last Titanic Survivor Bound For Kansas
Because of the associations of the RMS Titanic with Ireland (it was built in Belfast and it stopped in Cobh, then called Queenstown, in County Cork on its ill-fated maiden voyage) we’ve talked about the ship seveal times here on Irish KC.
The news of the passing of the last remaining survivor of Titanic’s infamous voyage is particularly poignant because it marks the ending of the link with living memory and consigns the ship and all who sailed on her, to history.
Elizabeth Gladys Dean was just an 8-week old baby when she was on Titanic, and had the ship not sunk, and taken her father with it, then Wichita, Kansas is where she would have grown up. The Dean family were on their way to open a tobacco shop in Kansas wher ethey had family and friends, but after the tragedy Elizabeth’s mother decided to return to England.
Here’s one of a million articles marking the passing of the Titanic’s last survivor.
