Jack Doyle: Video of the Gorgeous Gael
I love this video.
Kansas City’s Happy-in-Bag the other day was lamenting the lack of interest in boxing here in the US these days, and how talking about it is likely to gain you a look as if you’d announced that your favourite Christmas activity is vivisection.
My grandad told me once about seeing Movita when she came to Ireland. It sounded like a huge deal. That was before she dumped Irish boxer and tenor Jack Doyle for Marlon Brando.
This video of the Gorgeous Gael - subject of the Jimmy McCarthy song made famous by Christy Moore, The Contender - might give you some clues as to what attracted her to him.
Can you imagine Tyson singing like that - like Doyle or like Buddy Baer?
Nice hair, too!
Visited Jack Doyles grave on sat 26th May after Reading fighting for love. Seen this video. Thanks.
That’s nice to hear, James. Thank you.
can anybody re-upload this video or even the song

That was the first footage of Doyle I have seen. My father used always used to take us to visit Jack’s grave when we used to go to our grandparent grave in the Old Church Cemetery in Cobh.
The singing voice we are listening to on this clip is that of Count John Mc Cormack.
Maire - I can’t pretend to know, but are you certain of that? The clip is from the RTE documentary I believe - and you’re saying that McCormack’s singing was dubbed in over Doyle’s?
We know that Doyle tried to sound like McCormack and received some training from McCormack’s manager, as well as having the capability of doing things with his voice - Michael Taub’s biography suggested that after elocution lessons he sounded like Trevor Howard in Brief Encounter but I’d love to know if this is really not his singing voice as you say.
Please could somebody tell me where i can purchase recordings or copies of Jack Doyle the gorgeous gael.
