Irish Breakfasts at Browne’s of Kansas City
This morning, Saturday, February 9, 2008 marked the first of the Irish Breakfasts at Browne’s Irish Market & Deli in midtown Kansas City.
The breakfast is described as “Rashers, and Bangers (Irish bacon and sausage), Eggs, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Tea, Juice and Coffee” along with Soda Bread.
As I’ve recently ranted, “Bangers” is a term for sausages in England, not Ireland, (and even then only by some English people in some circumstances). I’m not picking on Browne’s, many venues and events in the KC region perpetuate this fallacy. (Sheehans, for example, is among the other places that do it too).
And I suppose while I’m on the topic I should also mention that it is perfectly okay (read: perfectly Irish) to refer to rashers as bacon. We Irish do, and often at the same time as referring to them as rashers e.g. I had bacon and eggs for breakfast. You did - how many rashers did you use?
The Irish Breakfast at Browne’s is on Saturdays starting at 8:30am. After today the following dates in 2008 are:
February 16, 23
March 1, 8, 15
I’ll add these on to the Irish Events calendar.
Come March 17, St Patrick’s Day, there will of course be a huge breakfast event at Browne’s. And should you value my opinion, I can personally testify to the great quality of the food at Browne’s, however it might be referred to.
Browne’s Irish Market & Deli is located at 3300 Pennsylvania Av, in Kansas City, Missouri and can be reached at (816) 561-0030
