Foods in Ireland Enjoyed the Most
Last night I had Steak & Kidney Pie for dinner. The night before, Fish & Chips.
Last week I had Shepherd’s Pie, and also Bacon & Cabbage.
Yet I haven’t set foot nor fork in an authentic Irish pub.
So I’ve had time to think about food since I returned to Ireland over 2 months ago. And I’ve had time to eat.
Without any reservations then I can hand you this list, a short list, of the food I have enjoyed the most since being back in Ireland.
It doesn’t necessarily say anything about food in America, nor in Ireland. Perhaps it equates to what I missed the most when I lived in the US. Even if I shouldn’t have.
Anyway, in reverse order then - for dramatic effect - and I don’t care if you think there’s duplication; life is like that sometimes. The referee’s decision is final.
5. Toast - any time of the day, multiple slices, warm, with butter.
4. Cheese - flavourful, evocative, and enduring. Cheese has presence.
3. Batch Bread - hearty yet decadent, I could live inside a batch.
2. Sausages - predictable but I wouldn’t've predicted it. Life is good.
1. Sandwiches - low-lying, single-filling, with ordinary sliced pan. Butter.
I appear to be putting on weight.

Ah yeah … and no mention of stew (although I love making/eating it), corned beef & cabbage and … eh … pasta.
Oh and by the way: Cheese does not have presence - I just checked the fridge and there’s none there.
Ah but Primal that’s exactly what presence is. You don’t go to the fridge and find there’s no pork chops, you go to the fridge and it’s cheese that’s not there.
You can’t have absence without first having presence.
