Interview with Mairtin de Cogain
In advance of The Fuchsia Band’s appearance at this weekend’s Jackson Celtic Fest, there’s a nice interview with front-man and part-time Kansas City resident, Máirtín de Cógáin, in the Clarion-Ledger.
Of course it’s not the first time The Fuchsia Band have played Jackson, Mississippi’s Celtic Festival and Máirtín shares some of his favourite memories from previous festivals:
I remember the first time I saw the ceili, I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Unbelievable. It’s great to see such an interest and such a huge number interested and doing Irish ceili dancing. And it was a real treat for me to see the likes of Robby O’Connell and Liz Carroll and John Doyle the first year and then Daithi Sproule and Randal Days the next year. They really have top-quality Irish musicians coming to Jackson CelticFest.
We also learn of a future album by the boys from Cork, and of more tours including another one with the legendary Jimmy Crowley.
We’re going to record a new album next year, please God. And hopefully a bigger and longer tour next summer. But at the same in the winter months and some of the spring I’m going to be touring with Jimmy Crowley. Myself and Jimmy are going to be in north Louisiana for their festival and also in Lake Charles for their festival.
Read the whole interview and check out the official website of this year’s Jackson CelticFest - a favourite among many performers.

I’m excited they are touring again next summer. I saw them in Branson this year and they were fantastic!
I got to witness the legend that is Jimmy Crowley and see Mairtin do a broom dance both in the same night. In a pub no less.
Can life get better?
A Eolaí,
We’re eagerly awaiting the performances of the Fuchsia Band and Máirtín’s storytelling at the upcoming Chicago Celtic Fest (15-16 Sept). In the meantime, lucky lucky Jackson MS. If the Tardis were working, I’d pop on down. What a line-up!
Ye that will attend, please say hello to my friend Jim Flanagan (ó Hattiesburg MS via Baile Bhuirne, Corcaigh, Éire). He’ll be singing as well as offering a Ceardlann na Gaeilge (Irish Language Workshop). And (see Cleaning Up post), he and Justin Murphy have a great rendition of “Mary Ellen Carter” on the Thall is Abhus (Far and Near) CD from 2006.
(Jim, if you’re listening, hope to see you and Sally in Madison WI next month - http://www.celticmadison.org)
T’anks E.
