Voted #1 Best Place To Worship in the Southland
To show you I don’t lie.
A photo. Of a church sign.
Since writing about it last November, I’ve nothing new to say about this notion of being Voted #1 Best Place To Worship anywhere.
Except that maybe it’s meant to be funny, but the Midwest has now made me too literal?
And when is the next vote?

What makes this story truly bizarre is not trying to imagine who sat around and voted where and when… but the fact that a church in Kansas City is considered ( or even considers itself )
to be “In the Southland”.
That debate ended long ago. Missouri is NOT “The South”.
I think someone just stole this banner when they were on
vacation in Alabama.
I assumed it meant south Kansas City, or the southern part of the metro area.
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit must be proud!
Especially if the One God managed to slip in three votes!
Is it true, then, that “Southland” is just a local reference there in Kansas City? I’d never heard that before. Can someone take it past the point of “assumption” and say if that’s official? It would be nice to know next time I’m in KC, if it’s true.
‘Tis that Kevin. It tends not be used as often as “the Northland” but you definitely hear it and see it around. Do a search on real estate in the KC area and you’ll see it.
Not the most reliable of sources, but if you look at the Wikipedia page on the KC Metro Area, you’ll see it mentioned in the Georgraphic Section near the top.
And here’s a category of local news in the Star that includes it in its title.
I actually thought you were joking about the “South” and was thinking of asking you if you would deny the South Pole its south reference also? And Christians don’t steal banners!
By the way, Kevin Kiley, I wasn’t in doubt about “Southland” being a term that can refer to part of the KC metro area. The assumption was simply that that particular use was how it was used there.
