The Potcheen Folk Band in Leawood, KS
The Potcheen Folk Band play at Paddy O’Quigley’s in Leawood, Kansas on Wednesday August 1, 2007 at 9pm
The Potcheen Folk Band are out of Colorado and describe what they do as “rapid fire delivery of traditionally based Irish music fused with punk and rock stylings performing rebel, pirate, sailing and drinking songs” - which is nowhere near as bad as it sounds.
They’re touring the nation in a rather distinctive bus called “Grace”, so you might keep an eye out for it. I think it’s named after Grace O’Malley.
PFB are:
Christopher Shelby: Acoustic Guitar/Lead Vocals
Dave Lamothe: Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals
Christian Blochinger: Drums/Percussion/Backing Vocals
Evan Sitchler: Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals
Braden Rauen: Fiddle/Mandolin
Grace O’Malley notwithstanding, I’ll confess to finding pirates as particularly relevant to Ireland and its music traditions as Dungeons and Dragons is, but regardless of that if you listen to PFB you’ll certainly hear some very accomplished musicians and I can see the Potcheen boys going down a treat in Kansas.
