The Tossers in Kansas City
The Tossers are among a group of bands playing at the Record Bar in Kansas City on Thursday, August 9, 2007.
I don’t know anything about the other performers: The Street Dogs / Krum Bums / Unknown Stuntman but $13 gets you in to see the lot. If you’re over 18 that is.
UPDATE: Street Dogs on MySpace. Punk. Blistering, but tight. Very likeable.
The Record Bar is at 1020 Westport Road, in the place by the covered wagon just along from Half-Price Books. Advance tickets are available for this gig - so ask your friendly bartender, though you may want to refer to it as the Street Dogs gig. Phone: 816-753-5207
There are an uncountable number of bands in existence because they liked what The Pogues did, and The Tossers are one of those, but they are one of the most musical around. Dodgy name though.
Claiming The Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly also as influences, The Tossers certainly have a punk attitude but not at the expense of playing music.
Comparisons are odious, so I’ll go ahead. If you recall the Top 25 CDs on Paddy Rock Radio for 2005 (and I must get around to 2006), you’ll remember that The Tossers were rated higher than many other Celtic Rock favourites such as The Young Dubs, The Great Big Sea, The Dropkick Murphys, The Prodigals, Switchback, Black 47, The Elders, and The Sawdoctors.
See my post on them from ealrier in the year for a video of Siobhan, or sty right here and have a look at this video of their classicly melancholic No Loot, No Booze, No Fun. Dee Dee Ramone, where have you gone, indeed?
