The Elders & Ben Meade in Ireland
The Elders get their name in the paper. Again.
About to head off on their tour of Ireland, Kansas City’s Celtic rock outfit are featured by Tim Finn in the Kansas City Star, primarily with the focus on local film-maker Ben Meade joining them with his film crew.
We’ve mentioned Meade going on the Elders trip before of course, as has the Pitch. Wicklow frontman, Ian Byrne, and Ben talk about the smallness of Johnnie Fox’s up in Glencullen and the challenge that will present for filming, as well as fitting in the 150 traveling Elders fans, into a pub whose website says the largest party they accept bookings for is 150.
Once upon a time, when I still lived in Dublin, I went past Johnnie Fox’s around half-eight one morning (it was my regular commute to work) and there was a huge crowd at the pub. Flat caps, canes, waistcoats, black bicycles, lots of pints - outside this was and it wasn’t warm enough to be outside I can tell you.
I’m fine with going to pubs at most times of the day but this was odd. And fake. Because everyone was acting. I don’t know what it was, but eventually I spotted all the filming paraphernalia.
